ASBESTOS REMEDIATION OF AIRPORT TERMINAL
Custom designed waste packaging speeds remediation time.
BACKGROUND
The iconic airport terminal built by Pan American Airways, Worldport at JFK, had long been a distinctive remnant of early jet travel and an emblem of PanAm, and once considered the most glamorous American carrier. But after 53 years of service, the terminal had become outdated and essentially doomed. The entire structure had to remediated due to high concentrations of asbestos and lead paint. The environmental contractor hired to complete the work needed to do a thorough job, in a timely manner, and at the lowest possible cost.
OUTCOME
After being contacted by the contractor, our engineers quickly designed a double spouted TransPac, with an outer and inner liner to form-fit roll off containers that were onsite to remove the waste from the site. The bags were designed to contain any airborne particles, limiting worker exposure. They were also manufactured with two spouts from fairly inexpensive materials, thus doubling output capacity while reducing expenses.
